Inventions
The Phoenicians were productive and smart people. They have done some innovative things that helped humanity better understand the past and the present. For starters they created the first known alphabet, and they also where one of the biggest trade nations of the time. One thing I want to know is what were some of the things that the Phoenicians created that actually helped them grow as a nation. To add to their inventions they had trading ships carried products such as timber from their prized cedar trees, copper and other minerals, and manufactured goods like their purple cloth, fine wooden furniture, carved ivory, metalwork, and glass. They established trading colonies along the Mediterranean Sea from Phoenicia to Spain. One other thing that I thought was interesting was that the Phoenicians created syllable writing. The Phoenicians also traded with the Greeks, and shared the alphabet with them. The original Phoenician alphabet had 22 letters, and was adopted by the Greeks, who added four letters, all 26 of which we use today. The Phoenicians also created the number system in which we call today roman numerals. They invented the alphabet and the numbers for the sole purpose of being able to record information about their trade, such as the day's total income. The Phoenicians were very wealthy people and worried solely about materialistic things. The end, god bless. sites: http://www.ancientscripts.com/phoenician.html http://phoenicia.jimdo.com/the-phoenicans/ http://phoenicia.org/history.html http://www.youtube.com/ |
